Michael Smith - PainterStudio location17 Old Hall Drive Contact detailsTel:01485 541262 Artist's statementI am a retired teacher of art and moved to Norfolk in 2003 specifically to paint along the North Norfolk coast. I try to use Ruskin's theory "truth to nature" but tend to push it creatively. The effects of light and weather on landscape are what particularly inspire me. The challenge of including figures is one I always enjoy. For many years I taught life drawing on behalf of Leicestershire education authority and art to A level at Leicester high school for girls. I have exhibited at both the Royal Academy Summer exhibition and The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour. I have also demonstrated art materials for both Winsor and Newton and Daler-Rowney, and lecture to art groups locally. My work is in the collections of Michael Parkinson, Brian Forbes, Lord Glendevon, Lord Walpole, Leicester University, Glenfield Hospital, County Council and many private collections. I am a former chairman of Leicester Society of Artists. Former galleries handling my work are: Visitors are always welcome to my studio in the village Dersingham, between King's Lynn and Hunstanton. |
